Summer Reading Challenge 2025

Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge 2025 is a comprehensive enrichment activity designed to foster a love for reading and enhance literacy skills among students. This program will be jointly conducted by language teachers and the school librarian.

Aims and Objectives of the Summer Reading Challenge:
  • Promote Reading Culture: Encourage students to develop a habit of reading for leisure and knowledge, beyond the classroom setting.
  • Enhance Literacy Skills: Strengthen students' reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills through exposure to a variety of texts.
  • Encourage Independent Learning: Empower students to select their own reading material from a curated list or based on personal interest.
  • Foster Critical Thinking: Encourage students to reflect on their reading experiences and develop the ability to analyze and critique books.
  • Create a Sense of Community: Facilitate a shared learning experience through discussions, online interactions, and collaboration between students, teachers, and librarians.
Suggested Reading List:
  • A list of suggested books for each category is available here...
  • Students are encouraged to read 3–5 books during the summer vacation, either from the suggested list or based on personal preference.
Reading Diary
  • Students will maintain a Reading Diary where they will document their reading activities, provide reviews of the books they have read, and note any other relevant thoughts.
  • Students should be encouraged to read newspapers daily, especially the front and sports pages. They will take notes in their Reading Diary, reflecting on current events and news.
  • The reading diary must be submitted upon school reopening for evaluation.
Posting on Padlet
  • Students will share their reading experiences on a dedicated Padlet created and maintained by the librarian. The post should include:
  • Title and author of the book
  • Name, class, and division of the student
  • A brief summary of the book and their reading experience
  • The librarian will monitor weekly submissions of posts on Padlet during the summer vacation.
  • The school-level Padlets will be compiled at the regional level and shared across all Kendriya Vidyalayas, allowing students to engage with and learn from the experiences of their peers.
Evaluation of Reading Diaries

A team of teachers will review and select the best reading diaries from each student category based on the following:

  • Originality of thoughts and content
  • Insightful commentary on the themes, characters, and lessons of the books read
  • Language use and clarity of expression
  • Consistency in recording reading activities throughout the vacation
  • Proper upkeep of the reading diary, including regular entries and reflections
  • Overall presentation of the book reviews
  • Active participation in posting reading experiences on Padlet

Winners will receive merit certificates from the Principal at the Vidyalaya level. Additionally, students who read the maximum number of books and maintain the best reading diaries may be appreciated at the school level.
